It’s hard to believe Memorial Day is here! Summer is upon us! There are plenty of events around South Florida to keep you and even the little ones busy between your BBQ’s and pool parties (weather permitting😎). Remember to take some time to honor the men and women who served our country. Listed are a couple of area Memorial Day Ceremonies that you can attend to pay your respects. It is always a treat to have a three day weekend and if all else fails there is always NETFLIX!
Memorial Day Events
Great American Beach Party, Fort Lauderdale Beach at A1A and Las Olas Blvd, May 26, 10am-8:30pm
Featuring music, live performances and activities for the entire family including a kids zone, sand castle contest, an art show, and a free movie showing on the beach! Six bands will perform on two stages throughout the day treating crowds to a variety of rock ‘n’ roll, country, funk, dance favorites, and more. Featured artists will include: Swahili Band, Pitbull of Blues, Rogue Theory, Shane Duncan Band, Stall 4, and Pocket Change. At 4:45pm, the Great American Beach Party will also welcome country music icon Lee Greenwood for an exclusive Great American Beach Party engagement.
Kidzfest at Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S Flamingo Rd., Davie, May 26-28, 9:30am-4:30pm.
Flamingo Gardens is celebrating Memorial Day weekend with KidzFest, in conjunction with the US Premier of the Borowski Art Glass exhibit, “Fables and Fairytales” featuring more than 70 imaginative works of art in glass and metal by the acclaimed glass artists of Studio Borowski, installed throughout Flamingo Gardens this summer. The colorful objects and sculptures are reminiscent of mythical creatures from beloved fables and fairytales.During KidzFest, Memorial Day weekend, children can also enjoy special guided tours, bounce houses, kid’s entertainment, games, crafts, vendor and information booths, food and fun surprises! $19.95 age 12+, $12.95 ages 3-11, free ages 2 and under
Memorial Day at Mizner Park Ampitheater, 590 Plaza Real, May 28th from 6pm-9pm
Enjoy a concert in the park by The Helmsmen Band and The Shane Duncan Band, plus food trucks, including Tucker Duke’s and a beer garden featuring local breweries.
Doors open at 5:30pm. Blankets and chairs are welcome at this free event, and chairs will also be available to rent for $5.00 (free for veterans). There is limited free parking for Veterans in the lot adjacent to the amphitheater. No coolers or outside alcoholic beverages permitted. The event is rain or shine.
21st Annual Downtown Delray Craft Fair, 201 W. Atlantic Ave., May 26 & May 27 from 10am-5pm
The eclectic city of Delray Beach is the perfect location for a delightful Memorial Day Weekend craft festival. Paintings, jewelry, glass work, pottery, and much more line the streets for a must-see event. The Delray Beach Tennis Center is where you’ll meet some of the nation’s finest crafters and shop their handmade wares. A Green Market with gourmet sauces, handmade soaps, along with live orchids completes this fantastic festival. Free admission
Fort Lauderdale Home Design & Remodeling Show, Broward County Convention Center, 1750 Eisenhower Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, May 25 from 9am-7:30pm, May 26 & 27 noon-9:30pm, May 28 from noon-7:30pm
At the Home Design & Remodeling Show, you get to experience Florida’s home remodeling industry at its very best.
